	Joint Commission Accreditation The Joint Commission is a world leader in evaluating the quality and safety of care delivered. To maintain and earn accreditation, the hospital undergoes an extensive on-site review by a select team of professionals such as administrators, physicians, and nurses at least once every three years. The purpose of the review is to evaluate the hospital's performance in areas that affect patient care. Through an assessment of a hospital's processes and personal visits with its patients and staff, the hospital is evaluated and scored. Accreditation may then be awarded based on how well the hospital met these standards. The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval are clear signs that the accredited organization has demonstrated compliance to the most stringent standards of performance.
	Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Blue Distinction^® Center+ for Maternity Care The Blue Distinction Centers+ for Maternity Care program evaluates hospitals on quality measures for vaginal and cesarean delivery. To receive a Blue Distinction Centers+ for Maternity Care designation, a hospital must also demonstrate cost-efficiency. To be considered eligible for Blue Distinction Center+ designation, health care facilities must first meet the Blue Distinction’s nationally established, objective quality measures.
	4-Star Quality Rated by CMS For three consecutive years, Scotland Memorial Hospital received a 4-star rating for its quality of patient care from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) scores more than 4,000 hospitals across the country using a Hospital Compare rating system ranging from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest possible score. The most common overall rating is 3 stars. The CMS ratings are publically available on the Hospital Compare website and are intended to help consumers more easily decide between hospitals in their area.
	Commission on Cancer Accreditation Received Commission on Cancer (COC) Accreditation from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer
	Becker’s Hospital Review Scotland Memorial Hospital made national news for its patient safety. Becker’s Healthcare released the top 49 hospitals in the country with the lowest number of safety events per patient. Scotland Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in North Carolina to achieve this recognition. The statistics were calculated using several patient safety indicators related to surgical procedures, pressure ulcers, blood clots, and hospital acquired infections. The Hospital Compare data was gathered from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2014, the most recent data available. This data is publicly reported nationwide.
	American College of Radiology Mammogram Accreditation Scotland Memorial Hospital's mammography service has been accredited by the American College of Radiology since 1993. We proudly display the ACR gold seal of accreditation which represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. The gold seal is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
	The College of American Pathologists (CAP) The Scotland Memorial Hospital Laboratory is accredited by The College of American Pathologists (CAP). The Scotland Memorial Hospital Laboratory is one of the more than 7,500 laboratorie that meets the standards of the world's most rigorous accreditation program by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). We proudly display the CAP-accredited laboratory logo. The purpose of this accreditation is to ensure the medical staff and our community members know that we have a first rate Laboratory and that we committed to quality patient care.
