Ashley Williams 2025

By: Deon Cranford, III - Scotland Health Marketing

At Scotland Health, exceptional patient care isn’t just a promise—it’s a team effort. And while physicians and nurses are often the faces of healthcare, our Allied Health professionals help to form the foundation of our healthcare system, working tirelessly across departments to ensure every patient receives timely, accurate, and compassionate care.

From the lab to the rehab gym, Allied Health covers a wide spectrum of vital roles:

  • Laboratory Workers deliver the diagnostic insights that guide life-saving decisions.
  • Medical Assistants and Nurse Aides provide hands-on support and help patients feel at ease throughout their care journey.
  • Imaging Staff capture the precise visuals that inform treatment plans.
  • Respiratory Care Specialists help patients breathe easier and recover faster.
  • Rehabilitation Services professionals empower patients to regain strength, mobility, and independence.

These team members are not only highly trained—they’re deeply committed to the health and well-being of our community. Whether behind the scenes or at the forefront of care, Allied Health professionals play a pivotal role in diagnosing, treating, and supporting patients every step of the way.

Spotlight: Surgical Techs in Endoscopy

Among our Allied Health team are Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs)—highly skilled professionals who assist surgeons during procedures, prepare operating suites, manage surgical instruments, and contribute to performance improvement efforts across the department.

One of those professionals is Ashley Williams, CST, who has been with Scotland Health for 11 years, spending the last nine in the Endoscopy department.

“I’ve been with Scotland Health for 11 years and started in the operating room,” Williams shared. “Every now and again I’ll go help in the OR, but I’ve worked here in Endoscopy for about nine years assisting with colonoscopies and EGDs.”

When asked to describe her role, Williams keeps it simple:

“I’m here to help the doctors. I clean and set up the rooms. I make sure they have everything they need.”

But behind that modest description lies a complex and critical responsibility. CSTs in endoscopy are tasked with preparing procedure rooms, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting physicians with specialized instruments and equipment. Their precision and expertise help prevent complications, support accurate diagnostics, and ensure a smooth experience for every patient.

Williams credits the success of the Endoscopy Suite to strong teamwork:

“It’s a great area to work in,” she said. “Everyone has a specific job and we work really well together. But it’s not just in Endoscopy. Working well with other departments is key to keeping patients safe and well taken care of. It’s always a team effort to keep things running smoothly.”
