Hospice of Scotland County is proud to announce its continued commitment to excellence with the achievement of DEEMED status accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), effective through August 2028. First accredited by ACHC in 2004, Hospice of Scotland County has maintained its accreditation every three years since—marking one of the longest-running continuous accreditation records with ACHC in the region.
Accreditation is a rigorous process through which healthcare organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. ACHC accreditation reflects Hospice of Scotland County’s unwavering commitment to excellence in end-of-life care and its dedication to providing compassionate, patient-centered services that meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
“This accreditation is a testament to the incredible work our team does every day,” said Missy Smith, Administrator of Hospice of Scotland County. “It reflects our deep commitment to the families we serve and our mission to provide safe, high-quality, and compassionate care during life’s most challenging moments.”
Founded in 1985, Hospice of Scotland County is a not-for-profit organization currently celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Over the past four decades, it has helped thousands of individuals spend their final days at home, surrounded by loved ones. The organization serves residents across Scotland, Richmond, Robeson, and Hoke counties in North Carolina, as well as Marlboro, Dillon, and Chesterfield counties in South Carolina.
Hospice care is a specialized service for individuals in the last six months of life, as certified by a physician. It focuses on pain and symptom management while also addressing the emotional and spiritual needs of both patients and their families. A dedicated team—including physicians, nurses, social workers, certified nursing assistants, and chaplains—works collaboratively to ensure each care plan is tailored to the goals and wishes of the patient and their loved ones.
“We are honored to walk alongside families during such a sacred time,” Smith added. “This accreditation affirms that our care meets nationally recognized standards, and we will continue striving to exceed those expectations every day.”
ACHC, a not-for-profit organization established in 1986, is ISO 9001:2015 certified and holds CMS Deeming Authority for Home Health, Hospice, and DMEPOS. Its accreditation is recognized as a symbol of quality and excellence in healthcare.
