On Certified Nurses Day, Scotland Health proudly recognizes the dedication and advanced expertise of its nursing team, celebrating more than 76 nurses who hold professional certifications across 27 specialty areas, representing a total of 99 certifications system‑wide.
Certified nurses go beyond the traditional scope of nursing practice, voluntarily pursuing advanced education, rigorous examinations, and ongoing professional development to deepen their clinical knowledge and sharpen their skills. These certifications demonstrate a commitment to excellence, lifelong learning, and delivering the highest standard of care to patients and families.
At Scotland Health, certified nurses practice across a wide range of specialties, with the highest concentration serving in the Women’s Center, where advanced expertise plays a critical role in supporting mothers, babies, and families through every stage of care. Twenty‑eight nurses hold certifications in areas such as lactation, fetal monitoring, newborn nursing, obstetrics nursing, and low‑risk neonatal intensive care.
“Certification reflects a nurse’s dedication to going above and beyond for their patients,” said Bebe Holt, Chief Nursing Officer. “These nurses challenge themselves to stay current with best practices, emerging research, and evolving standards of care. Their commitment directly strengthens patient outcomes and enhances the quality of care delivered across our system.”
Research consistently shows that care provided by certified nurses is associated with improved patient safety, stronger clinical outcomes, and increased patient confidence. Certification requires nurses to demonstrate mastery in their specialty areas while maintaining ongoing education to remain current in their field—ensuring patients receive care informed by the latest evidence and best practices.
Scotland Health remains committed to supporting professional growth and advancing nursing excellence, recognizing certified nurses as leaders, educators, and advocates within the healthcare team.
Two nurses hold more than five certifications each. Ashley Edwards, an Emergency Center nurse, holds five certifications, including trauma, transport, and flight certifications. Michael Frease, now semi‑retired and working with the Scotland Physicians Network, holds seven certifications in critical care, pediatric emergencies, trauma, and progressive care.
On Certified Nurses Day, Scotland Health thanks its certified nurses for their dedication, professionalism, and continued pursuit of excellence—making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and the communities they serve every day.
