Scotland Health Welcomes Dr. Charlene R. Locklear to Pembroke Family Practice & Urgent Care

Scotland Health is pleased to announce that Charlene R. Locklear, MD, has joined the medical staff at Pembroke Family Practice & Urgent Care, bringing nearly two decades of experience providing comprehensive family medicine care to patients in rural communities across southeastern North Carolina. 

A native of Robeson County, Dr. Locklear earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry with a Biomedical Concentration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, graduating summa cum laude. She then received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, where she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class and earned honors in multiple clinical disciplines. 

Following medical school, Dr. Locklear completed the McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program in Florence, South Carolina, where she received extensive training in family medicine, women’s health, sports medicine, and community-based care. 

Since 2015, Dr. Locklear has served as a self-employed, board-certified family medicine physician and owner of TruCare Family Practice in Lumberton. Throughout her career, she has cared for patients in a variety of settings, including primary care clinics, nursing facilities, and hospice services. She has also served as an attending physician for Glen Flora and Medi-Hospice and previously practiced with Southeastern Health.

Board certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Locklear is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association. Throughout her career, she has maintained a strong focus on preventive care, chronic disease management, women’s health, and improving health outcomes for underserved populations. 

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Locklear has participated in research and community health initiatives focused on preventive medicine, diabetes awareness, childhood obesity, and women’s health. Her leadership experience includes serving as Vice President and President of the Association of Native American Physicians during medical school. 

“Caring for families and building long-term relationships with patients has always been the most rewarding part of practicing medicine,” said Dr. Locklear. “I am excited to join Scotland Health and continue serving the healthcare needs of this region.” 

Outside of medicine, Dr. Locklear enjoys scuba diving and spending time with family and friends.
