Scotland Health Welcomes Dr. Emily A. Milz to Marlboro Family Practice & Urgent Care

A native of Florence, South Carolina, Dr. Milz brings a strong academic background, a passion for rural healthcare, and a commitment to serving communities throughout the Carolinas. She completed her final year of residency in June 2026 and plans to begin providing comprehensive family medicine services to patients of all ages in July.

“Dr. Milz’s dedication to patient care, leadership experience, and commitment to rural medicine make her an excellent addition to our team,” said Ron Bennion, Director of Primary and Urgent Care Centers. “We are excited to welcome her to Marlboro County and look forward to the compassionate, high-quality care she will provide to our patients.”

Dr. Milz graduated from the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics in Hartsville before attending the University of South Carolina Honors College, where she earned her degree summa cum laude with honors. She then received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Milz earned numerous honors and awards, including recognition as a National Merit Scholar, admission to medical school as a college freshman through the prestigious BARSC-MD Program, membership in the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and multiple leadership awards from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She also served as President of Student Government throughout medical school and currently serves as Chief Resident for the Duke University Rural Family Medicine Residency Program.

In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Milz has participated in research focused on improving cancer awareness and detection in rural communities and has presented on topics ranging from artificial intelligence in medicine to evidence-based clinical decision making in primary care.

Dr. Milz and her husband, Tyler, will reside in Bennettsville and are excited to become active members of the community. Tyler, a native of Lamar, South Carolina, is a middle and high school teacher in Darlington and also serves as organist at the Presbyterian Church in downtown Bennettsville.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Milz enjoys Peloton rides, learning about theology and public policy, and spending time with her three-legged dog, Nugget. Tyler enjoys writing and composing music.
