Scotland Health is proud to recognize four outstanding teammates as the latest recipients of The Scotland Way in Action Award, an honor that celebrates employees who exemplify the organization’s mission, values and commitment to exceptional patient care.
The most recent award recipients are Whitney Lowry, Janaya Young and Keyonna Lloyd of the Outpatient Lab team, as well as Justin Patrick, a Surgical Technologist in Surgical Services.
Whitney, Janaya and Keyonna were nominated by Patient Care Supervisor Iris Locklear following their response to an unexpected medical situation involving a woman and her newborn child.
While Whitney was drawing blood from a 4-day-old infant, the baby’s mother became dizzy and felt as though she might pass out. Whitney and Janaya immediately acted to ensure the infant’s safety, assisting the mother into a wheelchair and calling for additional help. Keyonna quickly joined her teammates, helping provide support and comfort while the patient was assessed and later transported to Scotland Health’s Emergency Department.
According to Locklear, the team’s attentiveness, compassion and coordinated response, helped to handle a potentially dangerous situation quickly and professionally. After the mother received the medical attention she needed, the Outpatient Lab teammates continued caring for the newborn until the baby could be reunited with her in the Emergency Department.
“Whitney, Janaya and Keyonna demonstrated remarkable teamwork and a steadfast commitment to patient safety during a challenging situation,” said Locklear. “Their quick thinking, compassion and professionalism reflect the very best of The Scotland Way.”
Patrick was recognized for demonstrating exceptional situational awareness, initiative and dedication to creating a safer environment for patients and teammates.
By identifying an opportunity for improvement and speaking up, Patrick helped drive positive changes that will strengthen safety practices across the organization. His proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of a challenge embody the core principles of The Scotland Way.
“Justin’s actions remind us that every teammate has the ability to make a meaningful difference,” said Angela Mackey, Scotland Health surgical services manager. “His commitment to safety and continuous improvement reflects our shared responsibility to provide the best possible environment for patients, visitors and fellow teammates.”
The Scotland Way in Action Award recognizes employees who go above and beyond in demonstrating excellence, compassion, accountability, teamwork and service. Recipients are nominated by their peers and leaders for actions that exemplify Scotland Health’s commitment to delivering outstanding care and improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves.
Scotland Health congratulates Whitney Lowry, Janaya Young, Keyonna Lloyd and Justin Patrick on this well-deserved recognition and thanks them for their dedication to living out The Scotland Way every day.
