Scotland Health Celebrates 80 Years of Caring and Welcomes Dr. Emily Mills at Marlboro Family Practice & Urgent Care Open House

Scotland Health welcomed community members, local leaders, board members, and teammates to an Open House at Marlboro Family Practice & Urgent Care last Thursday evening, celebrating the health system's 80th anniversary and officially welcoming Shannon Courtleigh, PA-C and Dr. Emily Milz to the practice.  

The event highlighted Scotland Health's nearly 30 years of service and commitment to high-quality healthcare in Marlboro County and celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Bennettsville practice, which was established following the closure of the county hospital.  

Guests enjoyed fellowship, refreshments, and remarks from community and healthcare leaders, including Reverend Dr. Scott Andrews, Elizabeth Munnerlyn of the Scotland Health Board of Trustees, Gage Speight, representing the Marlboro County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and David Pope, Chief Executive Officer.  

During her remarks, Munnerlyn reflected on the significant healthcare changes Marlboro County faced ten years ago and thanked Scotland Health for stepping forward to ensure local residents continued to have access to care.  

"Scotland has been there with Marlboro County through this, and we are so thankful for Scotland and all the employees here who provide healthcare to Marlboro County residents," said Munnerlyn. "We're particularly thankful to have Dr. Emily Milz join us. Scotland worked hard to recruit a physician who would be a good fit for our community, and I believe we've found the perfect match."  

Munnerlyn also noted Dr. Milz' strong ties to the Pee Dee region and her commitment to family medicine, emphasizing the importance of long-term relationships between physicians and patients.  

Speight congratulated Scotland Health on its 80-year milestone and praised the organization's ongoing investment in rural healthcare.  

"Healthcare is not only about treatments, facilities, or services," said Speight. "At its heart, healthcare is about people caring for people during some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments of their lives. The compassion Scotland Health has demonstrated throughout its history continues today."  

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining access to primary and urgent care services in Bennettsville, noting that strong local healthcare services strengthen families, support employers, and improve the quality of life for residents throughout the region.  

Dr. Milz expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome she has received and shared her excitement about serving patients in Marlboro County.  

A native of Florence, South Carolina, Dr. Milz recently joined Marlboro Family Practice & Urgent Care and is accepting new patients. She provides comprehensive family medicine services and is passionate about building lasting relationships with patients and families while helping improve community health.
