Scotland Regional Hospice to resumes Lunch Bunch support group
For over 20 years Scotland Regional Hospice has held the Lunch Bunch support group as part of its bereavement services. The monthly meetings, led by Tanya Williams, the organization’s director of family services, were originally created for the benefit of widows and widowers and over time has expanded to include anyone who has lost a loved one and would otherwise be eating alone.
Unfortunately, the meetings have been on a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, but resumed on Friday, January 20th and will take place on the third Friday of each month going forward. Each gathering will take place at Captain Larry’s Seafood & Steaks now located at 124 Ford Drive in Laurinburg with a 12:00 p.m. meeting time.
“My hope is to restart our group with some fresh faces as well as our regulars,” shared Williams. “I will completely understand if anyone has reservations about meeting again, but I believe that many of us are ready to resume our monthly food, fun and fellowship.”
Prior to the pandemic, there were over 30 individuals attending the meals each month with many bringing friends, church members and other loved ones to join in. Each meeting begins with a recognition of birthdays, a brief message from the bereavement team and an uplifting, guided activity. Scotland Regional Hospice will provide education, gifts and activities, but participants are responsible for their own meal.
